South Korea, the world’s second-largest buyer of LNG, boosted its imports of the chilled fuel by 20 percent in February year-on-year.
The country imported 3.60 million mt of LNG in February, as compared to 3.0 million mt in the corresponding month the year before, according to the customs data.
South Korea paid about $1.5 billion for February imports, the data showed.
The world’s largest LNG exporter, Qatar, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 1.29 million mt of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar last month.
Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea in February with 602,688 mt.
The remaining volumes imported into South Korea were sourced from Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Nigeria, Brunei and Algeria.
To remind, South Korea’s Kogas last week reported a 3 percent increase in its February gas sales to 3.59 million mt of LNG equivalent.
