Perth-based Liquefied Natural Gas Limited said that Transport Canada’s Termpol review committee completed the review of Bear Head LNG’s marine terminal systems and transshipment sites.
It is a voluntary review of the proposed shipping route and marine terminal, but mandated under the separate environmental assessment process, and identifies navigational and marine transportation-related recommendations to support a safe shipping environment.
Speaking of the Marpol review, LNG Limited’s managing director and CEO Greg Vesey said it reflects the cooperation with the local communities as the recommendations and observations within the review pertain “to the marine route, LNG carriers, marine terminal, tugboats and overall project marine activities.”
LNG Limited noted in its statement that the Bear Head LNG will address and comply with all the recommendations throughout the life of the project.
Bear Head LNG is proposing to build an LNG export facility on the naturally deep waters of the Strait of Canso in Point Tupper, Richmond County, Nova Scotia.
The proposed facility will comprise an initial development of an 8 million ton per annum facility, with the capacity and approvals for further expansion.
