US LNG player Cheniere has been granted approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to place Sabine Pass project’s third liquefaction train in service.

Cheniere filed a request to place the third liquefaction train in service on March 20, following the completion of the commissioning demonstration tests.

Under the FERC’s order, Cheniere can begin liquefaction and export activities from the third LNG train.

In addition, the commission staff inspected the project areas within the terminal confirming they have been stabilized and are in compliance with the terms of the previous orders.

Cheniere, that is developing up to six trains at the Sabine Pass terminal, with each train expected to have a nominal production capacity of approximately 4.5 million tons per annum of LNG, recently requested permission to introduce fuel gas to Train 4 to begin the commissioning process.
