Babcock’s LGE Process has secured an approval from Lloyd’s Register for its LNG reliquefaction system.
Commenting on the approval in principle award at the Gastech conference, currently being held in Japan, Alan Duckett , Babcock LGE Process technical & sales director, said, the system named ecoSMRT has been developed in partnership with the South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The new technology has been designed as a response to the increased issue of excess boil-off gas (BOG) resulting from the introduction of dual-fuel propulsion engines.
Babcock said in its statement that the new reliquefaction technology has been designed for application on LNG carriers to save excess BOG by its reliquefaction.
The new system reduces complexity and minimizes overall footprint as well as reducing initial investment and operation cost, the company said.
