Classification society DNV GL has approved Norway-based Torgy LNG’s updated fuel tank design.

The updated LNG Type A tank design has been granted a general approval for ship application (GASA) by DNV GL.

The original design was the first LNG tank based on the IMO A atmospheric design to have been awarded a GASA certificate, DNV GL said in a statement on Thursday.

The updated design has been modified with a total redesign of materials and geometrical design solutions of the secondary barrier, the classification society said, adding that the design is well suited for larger cargo tanks.

Torgy LNG is a unit of Norway’s Torgy Group.
