ConocoPhillips is set to award a contract for the removal of Ekofisk field platforms to the Dutch contractor Heerema Marine Contractors.
This is according to a statement by AF Gruppen, one of the largest civil engineering and construction companies in Norway.
Namely, in a statement on the Oslo Stock Exchange on Tuesday, AF Gruppen said that as a key subcontractor to Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) it has received notice “that ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS intend to enter into a contract with Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) for the removal and disposal of platforms connected to the Ekofisk field in the North Sea.”
The contract includes Engineering, Preparation, Removal & Disposal (EPRD) of four platforms with a total tonnage of approximately 36 000 tonnes. The platforms are to be removed and disposed from 2017 to 2022, AF Gruppen said.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to ConocoPhillips, seeking more info on the contract and the future plans for the Ekofisk field.
Here is what the company told us:”The platform removal is part of our Ekofisk I Cessation plan. As noted in our fourth-quarter earnings call, our plan for 2017 is to continue to progress development of the Greater Ekofisk Area.”
Drilling contracts
Still on the Ekofisk, Offshore Energy Today has reported early today that ConocoPhillips has hired jack-up rigs West Elara and West Linus for work in the Greater Ekofisk Area offshore Norway.
North Atlantic Drilling, the owner of the rigs, said the total backlog for the new contract awards is estimated at $1.4 billion excluding performance bonuses.
