Vroon Offshore Service’s platform supply vessel (PSV) VOS Prelude has joined MPI Offshore’s wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) MPI Discovery and another Vroon’s PSV, VOS Prime, on the 400MW Rampion offshore wind project off the south coast of England.

MPI Offshore and VOS Prime, who have operated on the site since February, have been joined by VOS Prelude at the end of March after the vessel was chartered to perform supply duties to MPI Discovery.

From her home port of Den Helder, VOS Prelude supplied MPI Discovery with fresh water and delivered 12 IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers).

These cargo operations were completed in less than four hours, allowing MPI Discovery to quickly recommence her job of erecting the 116 3.45MW MHI Vestas wind turbines, MPI Offshore said.

MPI Discovery installed the first turbine at the site in March 2017. The installations are set to continue throughout 2017.

The GBP 1.3 billion wind farm is being built 13km off the Sussex coast by E.ON, the UK Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge.

The project is due to be completed and fully operational in 2018.
