After several weeks of maintenance, Shell has resumed production from its Bonga field offshore Nigeria.
The oil giant confirmed this to Offshore Energy Today in an email on Wednesday, saying the planned turnaround maintenance has completed and the output from the offshore field has resumed.
Shell said the maintenance had started on April 4, and was completed on schedule. The first well opened up on 8th April 2017, and the production is now ramping up.
“This is another milestone for the Bonga team,” said Bayo Ojulari , SNEPCo Managing Director. “Having won the ‘Asset of the Year’ Award 2016 in the Shell Group, the Bonga team ably took up the challenge of achieving the three major components of the turnaround maintenance: statutory and regulatory safety checks, inspections, repairs and replacement of equipment and upgrades.”
This will be transported through existing pipelines to the Bonga floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility, which has the capacity to produce more than 200,000 barrels of oil and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas a day, the company added.
The Bonga field, which began producing oil and gas in 2005, was Nigeria’s first deep-water development in depths of more than 1,000 meters.
