A Russian military vessel sank near the Bosporus strait following a collision with the Togo-flagged livestock carrier Youzarsif H on April 27, according to the Turkish Coast Guard.
The ship in question, the Liman, reportedly sustained a rupture as a result of the collision and subsequently sank some 25 miles away from the Bosporus strait.
After receiving reports of the incident, the Turkish authorities dispatched a number of assets, including a tugboat and three fast rescue vessels, to conduct a search and rescue operation.
A total of 78 crewmembers from the Russian vessel were rescued and taken to safety, the coast guard informed.
Shipping agent GAC Turkey said that the collision occurred due to fog and low visibility in the area.
The livestock carrier Youzarsif H was directed to proceed at Buyukdere anchorage for further investigation, GAC Turkey added.
