Five new port terminals at the Port of Veracruz in Mexico are planned to be constructed until 2018, according to Luxembourg’s Jan De Nul Group.
These terminals will be able to handle up to 100 million tons of cargo per year, which is more than the annual tonnage handling of the largest ports in this country such as Lazaro Cardenas and Manzanillo.
The new facilities will include a container terminal, a multipurpose terminal, a terminal for liquid cargoes and bulk terminals.
The announcement was made as Jan De Nul has won a contract worth EUR 60 million (USD 65.3 million) for deepening the port to allow for its further development.
The areas to be dredged include the access channel and the turning basin. More than 13 million cubic meters will be removed and reclaimed, according to the company.
Scheduled to commence in summer 2017, the works are expected to be completed in March 2018.
