Yamgaz, a joint-venture led by TechnipFMC with JGC and Chiyoda, has awarded Weir Flow Control France a contract to engineer and supply critical service safety valves for Yamal LNG.
A total of 638 highly fast-track safety valves were supplied for the project, 185 of which were “superfast-track” deliveries, to meet critical installation and start-up schedules, the company said in its statement.
“The project is located on the estuary of the River Ob within the Yamal Peninsula, an area which experiences sub-zero temperatures for the majority of the year, so valves supplied for the project were subjected to rigorous manufacturing processes and tested under cryogenic conditions,” Weir said in its statement.
Yamal LNG is expected to produce a total of 16.5 million tons of LNG per year. Almost all of the volumes from the project have already been contracted.
Shareholders in the Yamal LNG project are Novatek, as the operator with a 50.1 percent stake, CNPC and Total with 20 percent stake each and China’s Silk Road Fund with a 9.9 percent stake.
Total’s CEO Patrick Pouyanne said in February that the project could dispatch its first cargo before October.
