Finnish city of Turku said it has joined forces with Gasum to deploy an LNG-fueled truck for waste management.
The LNG-fueled Scania purchased by Gasum will be transporting sewage sludge from the Kakolanmäki wastewater treatment plant to the Topinoja biogas plant.
According to the statement by the City of Turku, the truck will be traveling along the 16-kilometer route five, six times per day, replacing the diesel-fueled vehicle used previously.
“The demand for gas trucks has increased considerably over the last year, and it looks like it will only continue to grow,” Mika Jukkara , Scania Suomi’s product manager said, adding it is the first LNG-fueled Scania truck deployed in Finland.
The truck will fuel with liquefied natural gas at the LNG station located at the port of Turku.
The first two LNG filling stations in Finland were opened in Vuosaari in Helsinki and in Turku. The next two stations will be opened in Jyväskylä and Vantaa in 2017. Gasum will also adopt a second LNG-powered truck from Iveco in late spring. It will be used to transport
