Petronas takes pair of jack-up rigs from UMW

Malaysia’s UMW Oil & Gas has won contracts for two jack-up drilling rigs from Petronas Carigali with a combined value of $34.8 million.

The contracts for both firm and optional wells were awarded to UMW Offshore Drilling, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW Malaysian Ventures, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW-OG.

According to UMW-OG’s Bursa Malaysia filing on Monday, the first contract is for the provision of drilling rig services for Petronas Carigali’s drilling program whereby UMW will assign its UMW Naga 3 drilling rig. The contract is for five firm wells with the option of drilling additional 1+1+1+1+1+1 well, starting in June 2017.

The second contract is also for the provision of drilling rig services for Petronas Carigali’s drilling program whereby UMW will assign its UMW Naga 4 rig. The jack-up will drill two firm wells with the option of drilling additional 1+1+1 well, also starting in June 2017.

Both rigs are an independent-leg cantilever jack-ups that have a drilling depth capability of 30,000 feet and have a rated operating water depth of 400 feet.
