Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) has been working steadily over the last week to complete the Morehead City Harbor beach nourishment project.

The Carteret County (NC) reported yesterday that the second nourishment reach extending from Oceanana Fishing Pier westward to the Circle in Atlantic Beach was completed over the past weekend.

“ The pipes in this area have essentially been removed and are staged neatly on the beach ,” said the county. “ Pumping activities are now located back in “Reach 1” – east of the Oceanana; or more specifically, near Willis Avenue at its intersection with Club Colony Drive. ”

GLDD started the Morehead City Harbor Channel maintenance dredging project with concurrent beach nourishment on Friday, March 24th 2017.

The project calls for the removal of approximately 667,000 cubic yards of sand from the channel, placing it along 9,500 linear feet of the beach.

The county expects the project (dredging/pumping wise) to be completed by Wednesday.
