Third Dredge Joins Duck Beach Nourishment Operations

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD) is continuing work on the Town of Duck Beach Nourishment project.

Last weekend the town reported that the GLDD dredge Liberty Island is still undergoing repairs. On June 1, the town announced that the Liberty Island, the vessel working at the southern end of the project zone, has experienced some mechanical issues and will be down for some time to complete repairs.

Meanwhile, the company’s dredges the Dodge and Padre Island continue working North with the active construction zone moved between Ocean Bay Blvd. and 148 Skimmer Way.

The Padre Island arrived on-site June 1. Upon completion of the pre-dredge checklist, it began work on the northern boundary with the Dodge Island dredge.

According to the town, these two dredges are expected to take turns pumping onto the beach and refilling at the Borrow Area C.

The town also reported that on May 31st 2017, a public meeting was held in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall at 1:00 p.m. At this meeting, Coastal Planning and Engineering and GLDD presented an update on the Town of Duck Beach Nourishment project. A video recording is available for viewing here .
