The Greater Chennai Corporation recently acquired an amphibious multipurpose Watermaster dredger to counter the water hyacinth problem plaguing the Chennai’s water canals in Kodungaiyur.
Hyacinth can be a real problem in many ways: it restricts water flow, blocks sunlight for aquatic plants, starves water of oxygen and kills fish.
For years, the Chennai Corporation has been trying to mechanize the clean up operations of the canals and storm water drains and now they received a big boost from Watermaster in desilting of the Kodungaiyur canal, a major flood water carrier in north Chennai.
