An export pipeline for the Maersk Oil-operated Culzean gas condensate field development in the UK sector of the North Sea has been laid by the subsea engineering, construction and services company, Subsea 7.
According to a Friday update from the Danish oil company, the pipeline has been laid safely and on time by Subsea 7’s flagship vessel, the Seven Borealis.
The Culzean is one of the largest gas discoveries offshore UK. It is located in Block 22/25 of the Central North Sea at a water depth of approximately 90 meters. The development concept consists of a wellhead platform, a central processing facility platform, and separate utilities and living quarter platform.
Subsea 7 was awarded the contract for a subsea, umbilical, riser and flowline (SURF) work on the Culzean development back in September 2015.
The subsea company’s contract scope includes project management, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a 22” diameter 52 km gas export pipeline connected to the Central Area Transmission System (CATS), and a 3.6 km pipe-in-pipe (10″ outer pipe and 6” inner pipe) providing insulation for the transportation of the condensate to the in-field floating, storage and offloading facility (FSO).
Subsea 7 was also put in charge of providing subsea structures, tie-ins to the Culzean platform facilities and pre-commissioning expertise.
Earlier this week, Maersk Oil installed the second Culzean jacket , which is meant for the central processing facility (CPF).
