Thomas Basin Harbor in Ketchikan, Alaska, is to be dredged by the end of this year, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
A few days ago, the Federal Business Opportunities site announced that the $2.46 million Thomas Basin Maintenance Dredging contract was awarded to Seattle based contractor Western Marine Construction Inc.
Under the deal, the contractor will perform pre- and post-dredge surveys, maintenance dredging, and disposal of contaminated dredge material.
Transportation and disposal of the contaminated dredged material at a suitable upland site will also be the responsibility of the contractor.
The bulk of the material to be dredged is in a shoal near the mouth of Ketchikan Creek, consisting mainly of silt, sand, and organic debris from the Ketchikan Creek watershed.
USACE estimates that approximately 5,100 cubic yards of material will need to be removed from this federally maintained basin.
