Prosafe, an owner and operator of semi-submersible accommodation rigs known as flotels, will lay up another one of its units, following contract completion with Petrobras.
In its operational update for 2Q 2017 on Monday, Prosafe said that its 2005-built flotel Safe Concordia was fully contracted in the second quarter for Petrobras at a market adjusted dayrate.
In late July, the unit completed its contracted operations with the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras. The accommodation unit will now transit to Curacao for lay-up, Prosafe added on Monday.
The rig has been working for Petrobras since 2011 under a three-year contract, which was extended by another three years in late 2013. After this extension ended, the unit continued on short-term extensions at a market adjusted dayrate.
The Safe Concordia is a dynamically positioned (DP2) semi-submersible accommodation rig with beds for 461 persons built at the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore and delivered in March 2005.
According to data on Prosafe’s website, Safe Concordia was the first dynamically positioned accommodation unit ever to operate gangway connected to a turret moored FPSO. This was back in 2011.
Prosafe has four other units in lay-up. Safe Zephyrus , Regalia and Safe Bristolia are laid up in Norway, while Safe Astoria is laid up in Indonesia.
In addition, the company has so far scrapped five flotels, the latest one being Safe Regency , which was in mid-June sold for recycling to Aliaga Turkey for $1.25 million. The scrapping is part of Prosafe’s strategy to high grade the fleet and protect cash-flow.
