Oil company Aker BP has completed the drilling of wildcat well 25/4-11, targeting the Hyrokkin prospect, located in the North Sea off Norway. The well is dry.
The well was drilled in the central part of the North Sea, about 11 kilometers northwest of the Vilje field and 220 kilometers northwest of Stavanger.
The well is located in production license 677 where Aker BP is the operator. Fortis Petroleum and MOL Norge hold a 30 and 10 percent interest in the license, respectively.
The oil company got a consent to use the Maersk Interceptor jack-up drilling rig to drill the prospect as well as a drilling permit in July. The well was spud in mid-August.
According to a Monday statement by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Palaeocene reservoir rocks (the Heimdal formation).
The well encountered about 70 meters of aquiferous sandstone in the Heimdal formation with very good reservoir quality. The well is dry. Data acquisition has been carried out.
This is the first exploration well in production license 677, which was awarded in APA 2012.
The 25/4-11 well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2372 meters below the sea surface and was terminated in the Heimdal formation. Water depth at the site is 112 meters. The well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
The Maersk Interceptor jack-up drilling rig will now proceed to drill appraisal well 25/2-19 S in production license 442, where Aker BP is the operator.
