Offshore drilling contractor COSL Drilling Europe needs about 250 rig workers to staff two of its semi-submersible drilling rigs ahead of new contracts.
Back in July, the driller was awarded two new contracts for its drilling rigs. The first one was awarded by Nexen Petrole um for the COSLPioneer drilling rig for work in the UK sector of the North Sea and the second by Lundin for the COSLInnovator rig for work offshore Norway.
The driller said on Monday that the contracts require around 250 new rig workers in total, of which 70 – 80 in the UK sector.
“It’s good to get the rigs and crew back to sea where they belong,” said Jørgen Arnesen , CEO of COSL Drilling Europe.
Due to a downturn in the offshore drilling sector in the last couple of years, a number of drilling contracts were terminated with COSL Drilling being no exception. This in turn led to layoffs. According to COSL, about 500 employees lost their jobs in the company during this period. Now, many of these will return to work, the company said.
Around 250 new rig workers will be recruited in the first round and they will be in their roles around the end of the year.
Both rig contracts are set to start during the first quarter of 2018.
