The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, has awarded a maintenance dredging contract for the Palm Beach Harbor.
According to the FedBizOpps, the $5.5 million dredging contract was awarded to Weeks Marine Inc., of Covington, Louisiana.
The project calls for maintenance dredging of the Palm Beach Harbor Entrance Channel, Southern and Northern Turning Basins, and Settling Basins.
The Port of Palm Beach reported that the dredging project will widen the Outer channel from 400 to 450 ft, and Inner channel from 300 to 450 ft. The dredging will bring channel depth from 35 to 39 ft. with a 2-foot allowable over depth.
All material removed during the dredging operations is to be placed in the permitted beach disposal area which lies immediately south of the inlet.
When completed, the dredging will allow ships with the length of up to 720 ft (from previous 675 ft) to visit the port.
