Oil company Total E&P UK has extended the charter of the Prosafe-owned flotel Safe Caledonia currently operating in the North Sea.
The Safe Caledonia semi-submersible accommodation rig is operating at the Elgin-Franklin offshore platform in the UK sector of the North Sea.
Total initially awarded the contract for the accommodation rig in January . The deal was for 134 days plus additional 30 days option to extend with on-site operations planned to start May 15, 2017. The total value of the contract was estimated at $10 million including mobilization, demobilization, and associated services.
According to its Oslo Stock Exchange filing on Tuesday, Prosafe was awarded the 30-day extension option which will keep the Safe Caledonia with Total until late October 2017.
Safe Caledonia was built in 1982 at GVA Kockums yard in Sweden to a Pacesetter design and completed a 20-year life extension in 2012/13.
It has a maximum of 454 beds, nine offices, 67 client workstations, and a telescopic hydraulic gangway.
