The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, awarded recently an almost $2.5 million contract to Great Lakes Dock & Materials, LLC., to dredge Green Bay Harbor in northeast Wisconsin.
Great Lakes Dock, from Muskegon, Mich., will remove 99,000 cubic yards of material.
They will deposit 60,000 cubic yards in the Bayport Confined Disposal Facility located on the north side of the Fox River, which flows into Green Bay.
Also, the contractor will place 39,000 cubic yards in the Cat Island dredge material disposal facility in an effort to restore terrestrial habitat and wetlands in the former Pete Lake Marsh area.
According to the Corps, the dredging will take place from the mouth of the Fox River out 7,500 feet into the bay and then for about a quarter mile at about five and a half miles out into the bay. Dredging is expected to begin early October and wrap up by December, weather dependent.

Dennis Sugrue, district engineer, Detroit District . “ Marine transport is the most economical, efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation for commercial commerce. ”
This contract was awarded under the Corps’ Multiple Award Task Order Contract, MATOC, which the Detroit District established with 10 companies capable of dredging in the Great Lakes. The MATOC is designed to provide greater flexibility and expedite the bid solicitation-award process for dredging in Great Lakes commercial shipping channels and harbors.
