The multi-million Fountain Lake dredging project is closer than ever to starting, reports Andy Henschel, the Director of Field Operations for the Shell Rock River Watershed District.

According to him, the confined disposal facility site north of Interstate 90 – where the dredged material will be dumped to drain – will be ready by the end of the week.

“ The CDF site is nearly complete to accept dredged material. But there’s one step left to go, getting all the permits needed from various government agencies, ” Andy Henschel said.

He also added that out of the 12 permits needed for the job 11 are already secured. The remaining permit is from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

SRRWD expects that during the Fountain Lake dredging project over 1 million cubic yards of sediment will be removed from the lake, with the price tag of approximately $15 million.

The first phase of the project will remove around 600,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Edgewater Bay.
