Monte Udala, the first of four Suezmax tankers ordered by the Spanish Ibaizábal Group from compatriot shipbuilder Navantia, has been floated out at Puerto Real Shipyard, in the Bay of Cadiz.
As explained, the float-out represents an important milestone for Navantia as it is the first oil tanker constructed by the shipbuilding company after 20 years.
Immediately after the float-out, the first blocks for the second unit have been assembled at the dry dock, Navantia said.
Monte Udala is the first oil tanker in a series of four that were ordered in July 2015. The construction of the 156,000 dwt ship started in spring last year.
Featuring a length of 274 meters and a width of 48 meters, the newbuilding will work under a time charter for Spanish oil company Cepsa as part of its fleet renewal program.
