Construction work on the Poole Harbor £10 million new South Quay is nearing its completion, according to the Poole Harbor Commissioners (PHC).

The £10 million development is the first phase of the Harbor Commisioners’ masterplan to develop shipping and cruise line arrivals at the port.

“ We are very pleased to be nearing completion on this exciting first phase of Poole Harbor Commissioner’s masterplan for the port. Progress has been well managed and serves as a testament to the skilled contractors involved, ” commented Jim Stewart, PHC’s Chief Executive .

BAM Nuttall Ltd, the main contractor for a £10 million project, recently reported that the scheme is on budget and on schedule to be operational from January, 2018.

It took approximately 1,700 tons of steel piles, all of which were delivered by sea, and 150,000 cubic meters of sand material, most of which was taken directly from the port’s maintenance dredging scheme, to build this 200m long deep water quay.

The sole purpose of the project, according to PHC, is to ensure that the port remains competitive with facilities that can accommodate a much wider range of shipping and marine activities.
