Dredging operations at the Mappila Bay Fishing Harbor are progressing according to schedule, The Hindu reports.
Dredging work at the harbor mouth is nearing completion. So far, around 49.000m³ of silt was removed from this area, said the Government of Kerala’s Harbor Engineering Division (HED) Executive Engineer, S. Shylaja.
Dredging program at the basin is set to begin in the following days, she added.
The Harbor Engineering Division said in their announcement that the dredging work was undertaken when fishing boats capsized after hitting sand banks inside and outside the harbor.
It is expected that this dredging project will end in March 2018, removing 480.000m³ of material from these areas, according to The Hindu.
