Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. has completed the sand-pumping operations in Ocean City, New Jersey.
The city officials announced that the crews had reached 10th Street, wrapping up sand-pumping operations for this project.
In total, GLDD placed approximately 1.3 million cubic yards of new sand on the beaches between Seaspray Road and 12th Street and additional stockpiles to rebuild dunes at Fifth Street and other areas.
“ I want to thank our partners in the federal Army Corps of Engineers and the state Department of Environmental Protection for helping to complete this important work, ” said Ocean City Mayor, Jay A. Gillian.
“The boardwalk reconstruction project between 10th Street and 12th Street is also going well. New sections of decking stretch halfway down the block toward 11th Street. Crews will now move to 12th Street and work back toward 11th Street ,” added Jay A. Gillian.
The officials also announced that on the bay side, dredging to deepen waterways at Carnival Bayou and portions of Sunny Harbor and South Harbor is now complete.
The scheme is the city’s eighth beach replenishment project for the north end. The city has a 50-year agreement with the Corps for periodic beach replenishment running in three-year cycles.
