The Portreath Harbor coastal protection project, aimed to shore up the sea defenses severely damaged by Storm Eleanor, is about to begin, Cornwall Council confirmed in its latest announcement.
Under the plan, the council’s contractor Cormac will carry out temporary repairs to the end of the seawall, stabilize the concrete ramp and place concrete cubes in various locations to help protect nearby properties from tidal flooding.
A huge chunk of seawall collapsed in the seaside town when Storm Eleanor ripped through the UK and battered the north coast of Cornwall.
Following an inspection at Portreath yesterday, the council confirmed that the high tide did not cause any further damage to the seawall.
Although Storm Eleanor has now departed, there are still very strong winds out there at the moment and the Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for high tide tonight and tomorrow morning for many coastal locations around Cornwall, said the council.
