BMT and Metocean Services International (MSI) have been jointly awarded a contract by Gastrade to deploy an environmental monitoring system (EMS) for the FSRU and subsea pipeline offshore Greece.
The two companies will develop metocean criteria to be utilized for the design of the offshore moored FSRU and the subsea pipeline to shore, a joint statement reads.
The Alexandroupolis FSRU will be located offshore Greece in the northern Aegean Sea in approximately 40 meters water depth and will connect to shore via a 24-kilometer subsea pipeline. The FSRU is part of the Alexandroupolis Independent Natural Gas System which aims to create a new natural gas gateway to central and south-eastern Europe.
MSI will provide a site-specific measurement program to record metocean parameters including waves, currents, water levels and temperature offshore, as well as meteorological parameters onshore for a period of 12 months.
BMT will deliver the metocean criteria study to support the engineering design phase.
This FSRU project would provide a new route and a source of gas diversification to a number of countries that are currently highly dependent on pipeline gas in South East and Central Europe. The project has the backing of the Greek and the Bulgarian Governments as well as the support of the EU.
In February last year, the Monaco-based owner, operator and manager of LNG carriers, GasLog, acquired a 20 percent stake in Gastrade.
With the acquisition, GasLog, as well as being a shareholder, will provide operations and maintenance services for the FSRU.
The floating storage and regasification unit will have a 170,000 cubic meter storage capacity and will be capable of regasifying 400 cubic meters of LNG per hour.
