The Environment Agency continues with the development of the Medway Estuary and Swale flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy.

The main aim of the strategy is to determine the best economic, environmental and technically appropriate approach to managing flood and coastal erosion risk within the area.

In its latest update on the project, the EA disclosed that the project team has developed leading options for each section of the strategy area.

The Environment Agency has also carried out a consultation with key stakeholders including local authorities and parish councils, ahead of upcoming landowner and public consultation.

According to the update, the final strategy is currently expected to be completed in spring 2018, with official sign off in summer 2018.

The online public consultation period that was opened, 6 November 2017, will run until the end of January.
