The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District, has awarded Alaska Marine Excavation LLC a two-year maintenance dredging contract for the Nome Harbor.
According to the FedBizOpps.gov, the $1.5 million contract was awarded on January 10, 2018.
Under the deal, the contractor will be responsible for pre- and post-dredge surveys, annual maintenance dredging, and near shore placement of the dredged material.
Earlier in 2017, USACE reported that the 2018-2020 Nome Harbor Maintenance Dredging project calls for the removal of 4,000 cubic yards of sediment from the inner entrance channel where depths vary from -22 feet mean lower low water (MLLW) to -10 feet MLLW.
The Army Corps also added that the contract may include options for the removal of additional 10,000 CY in the outer entrance channel (-22 feet MLLW), 15,000 CY in the sediment trap (-22 feet MLLW), and 5,000 CY in the harbor basin (-10 feet MLLW).
The work period for the 2019 and 2020 dredging works will be early May to late July, depending on the “ice out” conditions.
