DEME’s trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Reynaert’ is putting finishing touches on a capital dredge program, currently taking place in Dublin Port.

According to the port, works on this capital dredge program began on or about January 6th and will last for a period of approximately 10 days.

“ Dredging is taking place in the outer fairway, in the area defined by No. 1 buoy and No.7 & No.8 Buoys inclusive ,” the port said, adding that the Fastnet Shipping’s survey vessel ‘Fastnet Petrel’ is assisting the dredger during the operations.

This dredging project forms part of the port’s strategy to facilitate future growth, investing in new infrastructure based on its Masterplan to 2040.

Commenting on the full year trading figures for 2017 and the investments Dublin Port’s Chief Executive, Eamonn O’Reilly said that every year from 1993 to 2007 was a record year for Dublin Port.

“ In the past three years we have seen this pattern re-emerge, with 2017 the third year in a row for record growth. We are projecting another record year in 2018 with growth of about 5%, ” added Eamonn O’Reilly. “ Dublin Port’s multi-million euro infrastructure investment program is matching our customers’ continuing investments in new ships.”

According to him, the company invested €75 million in port infrastructure in 2017 and plans to invest a further €132m during 2018.
