UAE-based provider of rig services Lamprell is on track to complete the upgrade of the Master Marine-owned Haven accommodation rig during 2Q 2018. The rig will be used on the Statoil-operated Johan Sverdrup project off Norway.

Statoil awarded a contract to Jacktel, a subsidiary of Master Marine, for providing accommodation services on the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea in November 2015. However, the selected Haven unit had to be upgraded first in order to ensure required capacity for working on the Johan Sverdrup field.

It was decided that Haven would undergo an upgrade related to strength and length of the legs, including the provision of new spud-cans/suction-caissons, in a Norwegian yard. The value of the firm contract period with Statoil was first expected to be $178 million, including expected upgrade cost of approximately $100 million.

However, Jacktel said in late September 2016 that the Haven upgrade contract would be carried out by Lamprell, which meant the upgrade price would go up by $17 million.

Lamprell’s scope of work included procurement, construction, and installation of extended legs and new suction caissons. The contract was estimated to be worth $90 million.

The new leg sections and suction caissons were fabricated at Lamprell’s Hamriyah yard in the United Arab Emirates. On December 23, 2017, the constructed rig parts were sent on a vessel from the Hamriyah facility to the Norwegian construction service provider, Coast Centre Base, for installation.

Lamprell said in an update on Wednesday that the refurbishment project for Master Marine was progressing well following the departure of the vessel carrying the fabricated products from the Hamriyah facility.

According to the company, the vessel is heading to Norway for final installation of the products on to the Haven rig at Lamprell subcontractor’s yard and for completion in 2Q 2018, as planned. The contract with Statoil is scheduled to start in June this year.
