National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) has taken delivery of Lawhah, the second very large crude carrier (VLCC) fleet addition since the beginning of this year.
The 300,000 dwt carrier was handed over at a naming ceremony held at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) Mokpo shipyard in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, on February 1, 2018.
Lawhah lifts the total number of the company’s multipurpose fleet to 90 and the VLCC fleet to 43.
The tanker is part of the ten VLCCs Bahri ordered from the South Korean company in May 2015, in line with its maritime growth and expansion plan.
Bahri has received seven vessels so far, including Kassab, which was delivered in January 2018.
As informed, the remaining three carriers will be delivered in the first half of 2018.
“The addition of Lawhah to Bahri’s already strong fleet is an extension of the outstanding performance we delivered in 2017… It will further enhance the efficiency of our fleet to enable us to cater for increased demand for crude oil transportation,” Abdullah Aldubaikhi, CEO of Bahri , commented.
