Norway’s shipping company Wilson has placed an order for two 2,600 dwt dry bulk carriers with a Chinese shipbuilder.
The ships will be built by Wuxue Janda Shipbuilding and are scheduled to be delivered in 2019.
In an announcement released on February 5, Wilson said that it is paying EUR 4 million (USD 5 million) per unit.
The company earlier took delivery of two similar ships from the builder, while a third newbuilding is expected to join its fleet in the second quarter of 2018.
In January 2018, the company reached an agreement to buy two 4,345 dwt bulk carriers from German shipowner Bremer Lloyd, namely the 2001-built Hanseatic Trader and the 2002-built Wilson Holla, previously named Hanseatic Scout.
The vessels were purchased for a price of EUR 5.8 million (USD 7 million) each. They were expected to join their new owner during the first quarter of 2018.
Wilson’s fleet currently consists of 118 vessels, ranging from 1,500 to 8,500 dwt, 82 of which are owned by the Wilson group.
