DEME’s cable layer Living Stone sustained minor damage in yesterday’s fire in Port of Balboa, Spain, the company’s spokesperson told World Maritime News.
“Damage is minor, and works resumed yesterday,” the spokesperson said.
“Delivery is still scheduled for summer 2018, as planned.”
According to DEME, the “small fire”, which broke out on February 15 on board the newbuilding ship while undergoing finishing touches in Santurtzi, was caused by hot works.
“Thanks to the efficient emergency procedure and swift reaction of our people working on board, the fire was contained quickly by our own teams, ” the company said.
“Three people got treated on site for smoke inhalation, no people were injured or taken to a hospital.”
The vessel was moved from Spanish La Naval shipyard for completion at the port in October last year, following several delivery delays from the yard.
The ship is being built for Tidewater, part of DEME Group, and needs a couple of more months of work to be completed.
