Symphony of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International’s newest cruise ship, has completed the first round of sea trials, STX France informed.
With over 80 hours of sailing, Symphony of the Seas was able to cover 1,000 nautical miles off Belle-Île island. During the four-day trials, the full range of the ship’s systems was activated at sea, the shipbuilder said.
The 362-meter-long Symphony of the Seas is scheduled for delivery in late March. Before the delivery, another short-sea trip is expected in the coming weeks.
According to Royal Caribbean, Symphony of the Seas will claim the title of the largest cruise ship in the world when it debuts in April for the inaugural season in Europe.
The 25th ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, Symphony of the Seas will set sail in April 2018 to kick off a summer season in the Mediterranean, calling on ports in Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Provence, Florence/Pisa, Rome and Naples. Beginning in November, the newbuilding will make Miami its year-round home, sailing Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages from the new Terminal A at PortMiami .
The 230,000 gross ton Symphony of the Seas will carry 5,500 guests at double occupancy and feature 2,759 staterooms.
