Offshore wind developer Ørsted has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) respectively with Show Chwan Memorial Hospital and Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan to collaborate and build up a medical network for offshore wind farms.
Ørsted will also introduce its Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards to Changhua and support the two local partnering hospitals to step into the field of medical services for offshore wind farms.
The developer also plans to invest in the health and safety infrastructure in Changhua such as a helipad.
Matthias Bausenwein , Ørsted’s General Manager Asia Pacific, said: “As a responsible employer, we need to ensure that if the need arises we have access to the best possible medical facilities and that is why we are pleased to sign the MOUs to support the hospitals and their staff to develop capabilities and obtain relevant international certification to provide the best possible care to Greater Changhua Projects.”
In 2017, Ørsted achieved a lost-time injury frequency of 1.6, the lowest level ever in the group’s history and with no fatal accidents, the company said.
Ørsted is developing four offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 2.4GW off the Changhua County. The Greater Changhua offshore wind projects are located 35 to 60 kilometres off the Changhua coast.
Earlier this year, Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration concluded the review process and approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the projects.
Subject to Ørsted’s final investment decision, construction of the first of the four projects could start as early as 2019.
