The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has extended the comment period for information and industry interest in offshore wind energy development within the New York Bight region.
The agency will now accept comments through 30 July 2018.
In addition, BOEM will be working with affected states in the New York Bight to plan additional stakeholder engagement opportunities with key stakeholder groups, such as commercial and recreational fisheries and the maritime navigation community.
In April, BOEM issued a call for information and nominations for commercial leasing for wind power on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in the New York Bight.
This region represents an area of shallow waters between Long Island to the north and east and the New Jersey coast to the south and west. Earlier this month, New Jersey requested for the public comment period to be extended by 180 days.
In addition to nominations, BOEM seeks public input on the potential for wind energy development in the call area. This includes site conditions, resources, and multiple uses in close proximity to, or within, the call areas that would be relevant to BOEM’s review of any nominations submitted, as well as BOEM’s subsequent decision whether to offer all or part of the call areas for commercial wind leasing. That notice originally had a comment period deadline of 29 May.
