Delaware’s Offshore Wind Working Group is hosting two public workshops in May to gather input for Governor John Carney on its draft recommendations regarding the development of offshore wind in the state.

The recommendations focus on the factors that need to be considered before Delaware responds when a company proposes to develop offshore wind, as well as those necessary for deciding whether the state would solicit or purchase energy, capacity or renewable energy credits (RECs) from a project.

The drafts also provide the answer to what can Delaware do to become the location for part of the offshore wind supply chain in the Mid-Atlantic.

The workshops will take place on 29 May at the William Penn High School Auditorium and on 31 May at the South Coastal Library, both scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.

The events will begin with a brief update on the draft recommendations, developed at the group’s meeting held on 23 April, after which the public will be free to comment.

Governor Carney established the Delaware working group in August last year in order to study potential environmental and economic development benefits offshore wind could bring to the state.

Executive Director at the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition, Bruce Burcat, is the group’s chairman, while other members include state officials, representatives from electricity distribution companies, consultancies, and wildlife and environmental organizations.
