China Merchants Heavy Industry will start building OOS Energy’s two newly designed jack-up vessels later this year. The new multi-activity units (MAUs) will be capable of handling offshore wind installation and oil & gas decommissioning operations.
OOS Energy, an affiliate company of Overdulve Offshore Services (OOS) International, revealed the vessel design in November 2017, saying it was in final talks with shipyards for the construction of the two vessels with an expected delivery in 2020/ 2021.
On 2 May, CMHI and DNV GL signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the classification of the two jack-ups.
The 96m long vessels will have a lifting capacity of 2,400 tonnes each, delivered by two cranes, one with a maximum hook height of 92m and the other with a maximum hook height of 122m above deck.
The MAUs, equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system, will be able to operate in water depths of up to 80m and those of up to 55m in harsh conditions.
China Merchants Heavy Industry is currently working on the delivery of two semi-submersible construction vessel (SSCV) for OOS International, OOS Energy’s parent company, which the company also aims to utilise in both oil & gas and offshore wind markets.
Namely, CMHI is building the OOS Serooskerke at its Haimen yard and started construction of the second ordered SSCV, OOS Walcheren, on 24 May at its Jiangsu site. The vessels are expected to be delivered in 2019/ 2020.
