Australia’s Woodside has informed LNG production has started from the Train 2 at the Wheatstone project in Western Australia.

The Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG project is fed by gas from Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar and Brunello offshore gas fields in Australia.

Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said : “We are very pleased Train 1 to date has run above nameplate capacity and we will continue to support the operator to maximize reliability to achieve top quartile performance.

“I commend the teams involved, the spirit of collaboration and the support our staff have provided, once again demonstrating the exceptionally high standard of LNG capability in Western Australia,” he said.

The Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG project first started producing in October 2017. The first LNG cargo was delivered to JERA on November 12, 2017.

Woodside on Friday said that Wheatstone’s two trains are an important addition to the six Woodside-operated trains on the Burrup Hub in Western Australia and a significant contribution towards Woodside’s targeted production of approximately 100MMboe by 2020.

“Also in support of Wheatstone’s production, Woodside is progressing concept definition for Phase 2 of the Julimar-Brunello Project which will tie-back the Julimar field to the existing Brunello subsea infrastructure that is connected to the Wheatstone offshore platform. The next milestone for Wheatstone will be successful commissioning of the domestic gas plant, targeted in the second half of 2018, adding to Western Australia’s strong and secure energy supply,” the company said.
