Norwegian oil and gas giant Equinor has installed four modules for the Martin Linge field platform located in the North Sea.
As reported in mid-July, the installation started with the utility module , which was lifted into place by the Heerema Marine Contractors-owned semi-submersible heavy lift crane vessel Thialf.
The installation of the other three modules followed right after the first one.
Last Friday, July 27 Equinor announced the completion of the installation of all four modules and launched a video of the operation.
According to Equinor, all four modules have now been installed, becoming one platform. The installation of the utility module was followed by the process module, followed by the flare module and finally, the living quarters module was installed. The installation of all four modules was performed by Thialf in less than five days.
Equinor noted that the largest module lifted into place by Thialf was a whopping 10 500 tonnes.
Now, the hook up operations begin, connecting steel, pipes and cables. At peak some 1 500 to 2 000 individuals in rotation will have their job offshore in the hook up & completion phases.
The Martin Linge field development concept includes an integrated wellhead, production and accommodation platform with a jacket, in addition to an oil storage vessel.
When the field comes on stream, the gas will flow through a new pipeline connecting the field to the existing pipeline to St. Fergus in Scotland. The oil will be processed on the storage vessel and transported from the field in shuttle tankers.
