IHC Beaver 1600 cutter suction dredger, named Jarraafu 2, has been deployed to the Maafinolhu Airport Reclamation Project, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said in their latest announcement.

Equipped with a 550mm discharge pipe, the vessel has a maximum dredging depth of 14m and is able to dredge 300m³/h.

During this $4.1 million project, a total of 17.2 hectares of land will be added to the 12-hectare island, according to the environmental impact assessment.

While coast protection is also to be established under the Maafinolhu land reclamation, MTCC estimates that the project will be completed within 203 days.
