A Young CEDA event, under the name ‘Dredging and Disposal of Contaminated Sediment’, will be held today at the Institute of Civil Engineers, Godfrey Mitchell Theatre in London.

According to CEDA, contaminated sediment is present in most waterways and harbors across the UK and Ireland. When left insitu it does not pose an environmental threat, but when the material is to be dredged the mobilization of contamination can have serious environmental impacts.

The resultant legislation can result in extremely high dredging and disposal costs for clients.

“ This seminar will discuss a range of methods of dredging and disposing of contaminated sediment as well as explore the impact of decisions made during the project development phase. This information should help all parts of the project development cycle improve environmental safety whilst reducing costs ,” CEDA said.

Under chairmanship of Jeremy Littlejohn – Boskalis Westminster Ltd, a.o. Jayne Hornsby – Land & Water, Miriam Parish – Royal HaskoningDHV, Joanne Kwan – CIRIA and Marlies van Miltenburg – Van Oord will share their views regarding these topics.
