A years-long federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant project is nearing completion at the Port of Baltimore.

The Baltimore funding is set to help renovating a 2,200 linear foot berth with a new pile support system, a recessed utility section to enable transfer of liquid commodities, dredging of the turning basin, and other site improvements.

Last month, the port marked a significant milestone, when they hosted its largest-ever container ship – the 1,200-foot-long Gunde Maersk. The massive vessel was able to call the Port of Baltimore because of the port’s 50-foot deep channel and its supersized NeoPanamax cranes.

Previously, the largest container ship to visit Baltimore was an MSC vessel in 2017 with a capacity of 9,700 TEU containers.

The port has just released this very interesting video, showing the progress and impact this expansion project has had on Seagirt Marine Terminal and Fairfield Marine Automobile Terminal.
