Danish renewable energy specialist European Energy Group has ordered a crew transfer vessel (CTV) which once delivered will service the 21MW Sprogø offshore wind farm.

The CTV will be built by Valling Ship Solution. European Energy has not shared any further details on the vessel or the expected delivery. The order marks the company’s entry into the ship owning and operating market.

Back in March, European Energy entered the offshore wind sector through the acquisition of the Sprogø wind farm.

Located in the Great Belt strait between the islands of Zealand and Funen, the wind farm comprises seven V90-3MW Vestas wind turbines which produce power equivalent to 16,000 households per year.

The wind farm entered production at the end of 2009. It generates approximately 66 million kWh annually and is serviced by MHI Vestas.
