The Government of Yemen intends to resume production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) which was halted as a result of a conflict in the country.
The oil minister of the Saudi-backed government in Yemen, Aws Abdullah al-Awd , said in an interview for Reuters that the predicted LNG output would rise to 6.7 million tonnes in 2019 and half of that amount would be exported.
Al-Awd noted the country expects to export all of its LNG production volumes in 2020, mainly to Asian customers.
Back in April 2015, Yemen LNG, the operator of the country’s only export plant located in Balhaf, stopped all production of chilled gas as fighting in the country approached the facility. At the time, the liquefaction plant was put in a preservation mode.
The Balhaf LNG plant consists of two parallel processing trains with a total production capacity of 6.7 million metric tons per year.
